GABBARD, KASON (P) » TEX

Gabbard Comes Off D.L. And Pitches 3 2/3 Shutout Innings
Gabbard starting for the first time since April 21 when he was put on the D.L. pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.85. Gababrd was taken to the ground by the Mariners Richie Sexson in the 4th when he took offense to a high inside pitch by Gabbard. Gabbard was removed two batters later with an injured leg.

Gabbard seems to be an injury waiting to happen and we will have to monitor this most recent injury. Reports after the game said it was just bruising on the legs. Gabbard is pitching well and is worth a look in A.L.-only leagues. Let's wait a day or two to see if the injury is serious.

VAZQUEZ, RAMON (SS) » TEX

Vazquez Goes 4 for 5
Vazquez raised his average to .309 by getting 4 hits in 5 plate appearances Thursday night. Vazquez who is seeing most of the playing time at 3B since Blalock has been injured has been giving the Rangers surprise production.

Vazquez who is a career .250 hitter is filling in exceptionally well but this can't last for much longer. When he is getting everyday AB's like this he is an A.L.-only option but once he is returned to the bench he doesn't offer anything to Fantasy players.

LITSCH, JESSE (P) » TOR

Litsch Has Found Control
Jesse Litsch turned in a third straight quality start last night.  He has no gone 20 1/3 innings without issuing a walk.

If Litsch can maintain excellent control he can be useful to fantasy owners.  He will always give up his share of hits, due to average velocity and movement, but when he pounds the strike zone the damage is usually respectable.  Pick up Litsch in mixed leagues, put him on your bench and consider some spot starts if he isn't walking batters.

SWISHER, NICK (OF) » CHA

Swisher Won't Lead Off Again
Nick Swisher will not return to the leadoff spot for the White Sox.

He probably shouldn't have been there in the first place anyways.  He doesn't fit the leadoff profile and once he starts to hit well again his power will be of better use in the 6th spot.

HAFNER, TRAVIS (DH) » CLE

No Improvements From Hafner
Travis Hafner is batting .209 this year and .200 so far in May.  He has lost his cleanup spot in the lineup and didn't play yesterday.

Hafner reported a sore shoulder in April and has played poorly ever since.  When you combine an injury report and a poor performance you have a recipe for a fantasy baseball trade.  If you own Hafner, consider selling low if you can convince another owner that he will bounce back.  He might bounce back, or he might kill your team all season.

BOROWSKI, JOE (P) » CLE

Borowski Throwing
Joe Borowski threw 25 pitches yesterday and didn't report any problems.  He will throw again Saturday.

Assuming that Saturday goes well, he will throw a simulated game next week and then start a rehab assignment.  He is about 2 weeks from returning.

VERLANDER, JUSTIN (P) » DET

Verlander Falls To 1-6
Justin Verlander fell to 1-6 yesterday after giving up 5 runs in 6 innings against Boston.

Verlander struck out 5, and his strikeout total has been generally fine this year, but he is still giving up too many hits and runs.  His ERA sits at 6.43 and fantasy owners must be frustrated with him.  Are they frustrated enough to sell low?

ROLLINS, JIMMY (SS) » PHI

Rollins Set For Return
Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins is set to return to the team's lineup today in San Francisco after missing the past month with an ankle injury.

Hopefully Rollins shows no lingering effects from the injury. He hit well in his short minor league rehab assignment, so feel free to activate him.

VICTORINO, SHANE (OF) » PHI

Victorino Heating Up
Philadelphia center fielder Shane Victorino went 2 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base in a loss to Arizona on Thursday. Both hits came off of soon-to-be 2008 Cy Young winner Brandon Webb.

Victorino has been very solid since his return from the DL in late April. He's hitting .303 with nine runs and three steals in eight games this month, all of which he has started. So much for platooning with Jayson Werth. Buy low on Victorino while you still can.

MYERS, BRETT (P) » PHI

Myers' Struggles Return
After striking out 10 in a victory in his last start, Philadelphia starter Brett Myers got rocked by Arizona on Thursday. Myers gave up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks during his five innings of work. He struck out five and fell to 2-3 on the season.

Just when he started looking like the pitcher everyone expected, the wheels fall off again. But don't panic. The Diamondbacks are crushing everything. We'll see how he does in his next start against Atlanta.

BROUSSARD, BEN (1B) » TEX

Broussard Designated For Assignment
Broussard is hitting .159 with 3 HR's and 8 RBI's. He started the season at 1B but was unable to hold onto the job.

Broussard has some power but with no job is value is nil. Cut him immediately. On the slim chance a change of scenery will help watch out if he ends up somewhere else.

METCALF, TRAVIS (3B) » TEX

Metcalf Activated From D.L.
Metcalf who was on the D.L. after surgery to repair a torn hamstring was activated today and added to the 25 man roster.

This is a strange move for many reasons. Metcalf was rumored to not be a 100% healthy for one and two he was thought to be headed to the minors when healthy.Anyway, his stay should be a short one.
He adds nothing to your team so pass.

MCDONALD, JOHN (SS) » TOR

McDonald Place On DL
The Jays placed John McDonald on the DL today with an injured ankle.

The amount of time McDonald will miss is not yet known.  He doesn't have fantasy value whether he is healthy or not.

ECKSTEIN, DAVID (SS) » TOR

Eckstein Placed On DL
David Eckstein was placed on the DL today with a strained right hip flexor.

Eckstein should only need the minimum amount of time on the DL.  The Jays do not have a replacement who is worthy of fantasy consideration.

HOCHEVAR, LUKE (P) » KAN

Hochevar Takes 2nd Loss Of The Season
Hochevar making his 5th lifetime start went 7 innings and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 5.

Hochevar pitched pretty well tonight. If not for a 3 run homer he would have had his third strong outing in a row. He appears to be finding his feet in the majors. He is still one of the best young pitchers in the game and a pitcher you want on your team.

CAPPS, MATT (P) » PIT

Capps Records 8th Save Of The Season
Capps recorded his 8th save in as many opportunities Thursday afternoon. His K/BB is 10/3and his ERA is 2.87.

Capps is on pace for a 30+ saves. His opportunities may be limited by the team he pitches for but he is a #2 RP in mixed leagues..

MICHAELS, JASON (LF) » PIT

Pirates Acquire Michaels From The Indians
Michaels was acquired by the Pirates for a player to be named later. Michaels was designated for assignment by the Indians on Tuesday.

Michaels was hitting .207 in 58 AB's for the Indians. Michaels is nothing more than an experienced reserve Outfielder for the Pirates. He should be ignored until he starts to get regular AB's with the Pirates.

SANCHEZ, FREDDY (2B) » PIT

Sanchez Gets Hot In Leadoff Spot
Sanchez is 7-13 after being moved to the leadoff spot this week. He has 6 multi-hit games in the last 11. He had 3 hits, 2 of them doubles Thursday against the Giants.

Sanchez now has 10 hits so far in May. He seems to have found a home in the leadoff spot. His career average is .306 so you had to know better things were on the way after a horrible April.

BAY, JASON (LF) » PIT

Bay Continues To Surge
Bay went 3 for 4 on Thursday to raise his average to .286. Bay has 10 hits in his last 20 AB's. He has scored 6 runs in those games.

Bay is bouncing back strongly from an off 2007 where he hit .247. Bay is a career .280 hitter so this shouldn't be to much of a surprise. Bay is a must play in all formats.

YOUNG, CHRIS B. (OF) » ARI

Young Goes Deep For #7
Chris Young hit his seventh homerun while going 2-for-5 on the night against the Phillies.

Young was due.  Now he just needs to start stealing again.
